The Story · Hotel Gellért & Várkert Bazár
Elena and Jakob's day moved across three Budapest locations, each chosen for the way it would photograph at a specific hour. The whole timeline was built around the light.
We started inside Hotel Gellért — the bride dressed in the upper salon while the city woke up on the other side of the Danube. The light there is famously editorial: ornate ceilings, deep shadows, and tall windows that act like soft-boxes.
The ceremony was at Várkert Bazár, a restored neo-Renaissance complex by the river.
The ceremony was at Várkert Bazár, a restored neo-Renaissance complex by the river. Elena walked in to a string trio playing Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel. The frames from the walk — long, slow, deliberate — are some of the most photographed-feeling images I've made.
After the ceremony we drove to a private boat moored near Margaret Bridge. As we crossed under the Chain Bridge at twilight, the parliament lit up gold to our left and we made the portraits the day was building toward. The whole evening felt like the city was working with us.
