Sofia & Matteo

Read the story

The Story · Villa del Balbianello

Sofia and Matteo gathered fifty of their closest people on the western shore of Lake Como for a day that began on the steps of Villa del Balbianello and ended on a private wooden boat after midnight.

The morning began quietly — Sofia in a slip dress with her sisters on the terrace, espresso in tiny cups, and the kind of low fog that makes Lake Como feel ancient. We shot the dress on a chair, then the rings on a marble bench, then the slow walk down the cypress avenue toward the ceremony.

Matteo was waiting under an arch of olive branches and white roses.
Sofia & Matteo

Matteo was waiting under an arch of olive branches and white roses. The ceremony was short and bilingual — Italian and English alternating like a duet — and ended with the couple walking back through their guests under a soft shower of dried lavender.

Dinner was set on the loggia overlooking the lake. We photographed the speeches in available candlelight, no flash, and then moved everyone onto private wooden Riva boats for the drive across the water to a quiet dock for fireworks. Some of the best frames of the day came from that boat — the bride laughing with her face turned to the wind, Matteo's hand on her shoulder, the dark mountains behind.

About Lake Como

Planning a wedding here?

A few practical answers for anyone considering this destination.

Yes — I've shot multiple weddings there and know the property's light, restrictions, and best vantage points. The villa requires accredited vendors and I work within those guidelines.
